PIANTO ROMANO

In the ossuary, designed by the famous architect  Ernesto Basile, the remains of Garibaldi’s and Bourbonic soldiers who died in the battle of 15 May 1860 are gathered in two cases made by Bruno De Lisi. The thirty metre high obelisk has a square base in smooth ashlar, where the entrance is, with a Greek temple style door. On the side walls are two bronze reliefs by Giovan Battista Tassara depicting Lo sbarco dei Mille a Marsala - The landing of the thousand in Marsala  and La battaglia di Calatafimi - The battle of Calatafimi. The monument was inaugurated 1892 on the 32nd anniversary of the battle.
